Hey I’m Jarno :)
I am 22 years old and just finished my education as a child care teacher. I have more academic plans for the future, but decided that these could wait a little bit longer.

The reason why I joined Workaway is to explore more of the world. But I dont want to just see all the places, like a normal tourist would, I want to engage with the surroundings, get to know the people, their culture and their way of living. I figured that making connections with other people is what makes life meaningful.

I'm eager to do all of that and also to learn and improve some skills! Hopefully to contribute to the places I'm staying at.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Im going to finish my education of a child care teacher here in Germany this summer. I gained experience trough multiple internships (in a kindergarten, a primary school, a children und youth psychatry and in a norwegian kindergarten).

Growing up I had multiple smaller jobs, like delivering newspaper or working in a warehouse/ on the assembly line, handling collection and organization of the finished products. I started to do these jobs to be more independent and use the money for my driving license.
I also work at a local fast food chain restaurant for 3 years now, to safe up some money for traveling.

I have skills according to these jobs. I'm good with children, have great patience and am creative. I can work in a team, I learned to take up responsability, improved my communication and adaptability.

I also have some basic experience with working with wood. As a teenager I helped with producing firewood, from going into the forest, to choping it, and in the end, starting a fire.

I'm living alone for 3 years now, so cleaning and (basic) cooking aren't a problem for me!

One of my hobbies is (olympic) weightlifting, which I do at my local club. I started just one year ago, so haven’t been really successful in competitions yet. Not that I‘m aiming for that anyway. I do it because of the fun of it and to stay fit. I like to try lots of different things. Thats why I did other sports in the past. Soccer, table tennis, running and swimming. Even tho I liked all of them, none of them were as fulfilling as weightlifting is.

I also like to read, even tho I would like to read more then I currently do. It just became harder to find the time for it. But when I read I like to read stuff like murder mysteries, especially from Agatha Christe. Besides that, just normal novels. My favourite book is ‚Of Mice and Men‘ by John Steinbeck. If you have any recommendations just let me know!

Another hobby of mine is hicking. I completed the ‚Camino de Santiago‘ (Camino Francés to be more precise) last summer! That was a huge achievement for me and the best adventure I ever took. I plan to it again in the future!

I also enjoy playing card games and board games! I enjoy going to museums.
