From July I return to Ireland!
But first I update my profile, because during my stay at Jack's farm and Angie’s farm I learned a lot of things, I did many things that I didn’t think I could do, and now many more I want to do!
This spring in West Cork I learned how to take care of Angie’s goats: feed them, clean their sheds, breastfeed the puppies left without their mommy (dead from birth... sigh!). I repaired the fencies, built new ones. I built myself a new large winter shelter for the goats, with concrete, bricks, poles, pellets... I helped Jack to start the vegetable garden, take care of his animals (chickens, pigs, rabbits...), cut the wood for the oven in which Martin cooks the bread and organic biscuits that he then sells at the market... Many things that enrich my skills, and friendships that have enriched me as a person. (For everything, read the following - previous- profile).
Ah, back to Italy I helped Giuliana in his riding, in return he taught me to look after the horses and gave me riding lessons on horseback at Escudo! I also add this to my profile, along with some photos of my workawayer works.

About me, my skills, my life project
Hi! I am a 53-year-old teacher, separated, with no children. About myself I can say that colleagues, students and friends find me a sociable, proactive, responsible person, moreover qualities that I consider necessary to do my job and spend my life well. I am passionate about cinema, literature, radio programs, but above all I love outdoor life. I try to spend as much time as possible in natural environments, I like walking in the mountains but also make long foot trails between history, nature and art cities. I like animals, I have a dog (a sweet abandoned hound-dog named Boo, taken 7 years ago from a kennel, with me in my photo profile) and I raise hens together with an old lady who I also help in the vegetable garden (see photos of our veg garden). I come from a farming family and try to rediscover the benefits of a healthy life, in contact with animals and nature, and consume food produced locally with ethic and organic methods. For this reason I am among the founders of a consumer cooperative for the direct purchase of food from local farms, outside the logic of profit and exploitation conducted by the large distribution system. The cooperative is inspired by the historic foodcoop Park Sloape in New York. It is a community form to which I aspire and promote: https://www.alvearemporio.it/
My skills
I don’t like waste, I try to reuse everything and minimize garbage. Also for home life: although I have no specific competences I have a good manual skill and a certain inventiveness, so I always do all the maintenance work (repair and repainting the walls, fix windows, small hydraulic and electrical repairs etc.). I like to work with wood to create simple furniture, shelves etc (see photos of one of the rooms in my holiday hut I arranged by myself) . For this reasons I know how to use a a few ‘all’ manual, electric and motor-driven tools (drill, brush cutter, chainsaw etc., but not the blowtorch!) for the house and garden general maintenance.
Au pair in a montain hut
Last year I worked "au pair" at "Rifugio Chiggiato", a mountain hut, 1900 MSL, in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Dolomites Unesco Heritage, places that I have always frequented, doing hiking and climbing. At the shelter I helped the hosts with tourists, working in the kitchen, tidying up the dining room and dorms, cutting grass and arranging the firewood. I also went into the woods to collect mushrooms to enrich the guests' menu! A rewarding experience of sharing spaces and work, a life among woods and breathtaking landscapes: community life, slow, frugal, sustainable... An experience I would like to repeat as a workawayer!
Why Ireland?
In the summer of 2022 I spent two weeks in Ireland, hiking the Dingle Way and cycling through Killarney National Park. I was so fascinated by the places, nature and people that since that summer I have promised myself to find the time and the way to stay in Ireland and get to know it better.
This year, 2025, I finally decided. I am in fact on “sabbatical” and I can have the time I want at my leisure to enrich my cultural baggage, meet people, help others in daily life, learn new things and improve my English.
What else?
