Description

Hello hello! My name is Matt, I'm 32, independent musician & designer, and general creative from the UK.

I left a life by the sea working in offices in the UK to pursue meaningful work and outstanding nature across the world.

So far....

Sept 2023 - my work in Bukit Lawang, Indonesia involved teaching and also incorporating creative skills into teaching - for example - improvising music around story reading to encourage children here to pick up books. I had my hand in painting, organising events, creating social media campaigns and farming! The building is in Gotong Royong (which means 'mutual help') a small village next to Bukit Lawang. This wasn't through workaway and was for a long stint of 4 months. It was incredible!

Feb 2024 - volunteered for Curtain Up! in Thailand, using my digital skills to help with social media posts and print materials. Within that, I also put my hand to practical tasks around their new exciting building, including painting, drilling and helping design art to be hung up. This lasted about 5-6 weeks though I lost track, it was a wonderful time of stretching my creative skills.

June 2024 - Joining the Buddhist Community in Alfoxton, I put my physical stamina to the test whilst working on the grounds digging, gardening, brambling and learning how to use some new tools. That's the work side - what I really learnt was how to meditate, how to consciously live as part of a loving community, and what it means to be a Buddhist and to live mindfully. For just under a month, it had enough experience to cover what felt like years. I've come away feeling superbly grateful.

I love being immersed in new places and communities, and am looking for a way to begin a worldwide journey whilst working as a digital nomad. I am currently at home living with relatives and keen to get back out there. I am also considering workaways in the UK as I believe there is much this island has to offer that I have yet to see.

I would love to learn any language other than my own. Right now I'm learning Bahasa Indonesian. I have some grounding in German, and perhaps some deep-down French and Japanese since I tried to learn both, but never spent enough time in another country to learn a language from native speakers (until now)

Autres infos...

I have a love for reading, as well as video games, films, honestly anything creative. I love hearing about local culture, folklore and tradition.

I love all arts but particularly have spent most of my life writing, producing and performing music. I've recently reconnected with my design skills and re-connected with software such as Adobe Illustrator.
