Description

Hello everyone!
My name is Merle, I’m 21 years old and from Germany. I’m currently studying Social Work and love to use my free time to discover different places, connect with people and dive into new cultures.

After finishing school in 2021 , I spent a year volunteering in a residential group for children as part of a Waldorf-based youth welfare organization. This experience really shaped me and sparked my interest in social work and community life.

Since then, I’ve had the chance to travel and work in different countries. In 2023, I spent three months in Portugal working on a farm together with around 15 other volunteers, it was such a great time filled with teamwork, learning and shared moments.

I also spent 4 months in Ireland in 2022 doing different Workaways, including a horse trekking center on Achill Island, I joined a family in their everyday life and worked on a small hobby farm. During that time, I deepened my understanding of animal care and farm work, and grew a lot personally.

Right now, I’m doing an Erasmus semester in Umeå, Sweden. I love the peacefulness of nature here, hiking, overnight trips, and exploring the surrounding landscapes have become my favorite ways to recharge.

In general, I’m a very open-minded, empathetic and spontaneous person. I enjoy all kinds of physical activity and have tried different sports throughout my life like gymnastics, skiing, horse riding & running. I’m always up for learning something new and giving things a try.

I’m drawn to nature, adventures, and meaningful connections and I’m really looking forward to all the experiences ahead!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

During my time abroad in Ireland I worked at different Workaways (see above) and was able to gain a lot of experience with different animals, especially with horses. I did different tasks like mucking out, feeding horses / cats / hens / dogs, leading Treks, riding horses and general maintenance of the stables.
As my family had or still have different animals like sheep, hens, bees, cats and ducks I came in contact with many animals and know how to handle them.
I see myself helping with animal farming again but also expanding my knowledge in terms of self-sufficiency and gardening.

Due to my voluntary year in a residential group, I've made a lot of experience in terms of childcare and housekeeping. I learned to organize appointments and to structure the everyday life of 7 children (aged 6-13) with different interest and behaviours. The work included to plan exciting activities and helping the children during their days as well as cooking for larger quantities and to keep the house tidy.
I really like to spend my time with children, joking and playing with them.

I am open-minded  for any kind of work and really hope to expand my knowledge and to achieve new skills.
