  • Description

Hello! I'm Neil, an easy-going Irish guy currently in Dublin but looking to do some workaways in Europe this summer, possibly in Portugal or Switzerland or The Netherlands. Learning about living off the land and off grid is something I would like to know more about and would like to get involved in building projects, in particular using carpentry. I love finding communities.

For the last few years I've been teaching maths in secondary school. Before that I worked as a trouser tailor in London. Lately I've been teaching sewing lessons at school too and can do a lot of projects with a sewing machine. I have also trained in leather tanning and have made some leather crafts.

This year I've also been co-teaching woodwork at school and recently I've started making wooden chairs with woven seats. This is a skill I'd be happy to pass on and get involved in more.

I volunteered with a few fashion labels in London and like getting involved at the beginning of projects when everything is new. I don't think too much about making money and prefer to measure my life by the experiences I've had. I have a Masters in Finance and Capital Markets and worked in banking for 3 years but it was too boring for me and my creative side won over.

I spent a few months teaching English in Madrid so my level of Spanish is good. I hiked the Camino de Santiago from San Sebastian for 5 weeks and swam in the sea every evening. I love outdoor swimming and swim every Christmas morning in the Irish sea. I cycle, hike, play basketball, cook and just recently I've started oil painting. I read and write every day and like the concepts of minimalism and sustainable living.

I've always had pets and love taking care of animals.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I've always been into writing and over the past year I've started performing at storytelling events in Dublin and have attended workshops in Amsterdam. I'd love to attend a storytelling event in your city.

I spent last summer building a house in Dublin.

I have worked in every area of hospitality in Dublin, London, New York and Sydney. My favourites were cooking in New York and making coffee for the players at the Wimbledon tennis tournament.

I taught English in Madrid and have experience landscaping and picking oranges in South Australia.

I am proficient in MS office and working in accounts and stuff like that.

  • Autres infos...

I'm a respectful, considerate and peaceful housemate/guest. Most of my time in London was spent studying/training/volunteering and working in minimum wage or unreliable industries. For this reason I have learned to live with less. Instead of paying expensive London rent I lived in an old folks home, a school and a community centre. They are always unfurnished and need to be fixed up so I have become quite handy with a drill and paint brush and in using my imagination to turn a place into a home. Conflict resolution is also important when sharing a kitchen with 27 others:)
