Hello!

We’re Rosie and Josh, a couple about to embark on an exciting new chapter as we move from the UK to Australia. After an unforgettable holiday to Kununurra at the start of 2024, Josh fell in love with Australia (a feeling Rosie already had after spending a year there in 2017). Together, we decided to make it our home.Rosie has previously volunteered through Workaway, finding it a wonderful way to explore new places, meet amazing people, and share skills… so we are seeking a host in WA to connect with and start settling into the Aussie way of life.

As a couple, we’ve been together for 7 years, supporting each other through life’s twists and turns. Our biggest joint project was renovating an ancient gatehouse that had been empty for 70 years. With Josh’s expertise in structural building and Rosie as laborer and support team, we took on a wide range of tasks: plastering, repointing, roofing, tiling, glass cutting, window glazing, and floor laying.

We love to enjoy the simple things in life - good food, good company and a slow pace of living.
We prefer a rural way of living… veggie growing, mushroom picking and looking forward to learning to fish in Oz.

It's hard to describe how much of an amazing time I had whilst staying with Toon, his place taught me soo much about life and myself. I stayed with him for a month.... of course I wish it was long but this was last part of my year trip so a flight was waiting for me.
The Daintree rainforest is B E A U T I F U L, espically Toons place. It's like… read more stepping into another world, peaceful, open and loving. The house he provides his kids is incredible, I would recommend sleeping outside as much as possible to fully enjoy it. The living space is perfect for watching butterflies and birds over the lucious green rainforest below, it would take my breathe away a couple of times a day. The food!! The food!!! Eating fresh from the garden makes your body smile, all the fresh veggies and fruit you need. It really opened my eyes about nutriation, eating an organic nutritious diet everyday. I always reminisce about mid morning massive bowls of fruit and coffee and banana smoothies.... and the camp oven dinners..... and the buckets of strawberries.
I really enjoyed the work Toon set me to do, espically the mowing! As Toon is a hard worker, you feel encourage to push yourself as much as you can. I loved this, the feeling of working as hard as you possible can is amazing..... expect to get sweaty and dirty. The work always fair, with lots of projects you can help with depending what needs doing, what you enjoy doing and what skills you have. the working hours are clear and you get plenty of down time to explore.
There is soo much to do when you're not working, Toon is always full of ideas and goes out his way to make sure you get the most out of your stay. Building fires, cycling, hiking, climbing, yoga on the veranda, prancing around the garden, trips to the beach and swimming holes, snorkeling, outside baths, seeking local wildlife etc etc Thank you Toon for all the activities I got to do, it means the world to me all the thought and effort you put into me having a good time!
If you're considering going to help Toon, remember it's a cultural exchange and he really let's you into his life. He is a warm hearted, honest, caring, giving and extremely interesting man, I am incredibly lucky to have met him. Be prepared to be open back to Toon, we spent so much time just talking about our lives and getting to know each other. Toon only wants the best for people, wants them to be the best versions of themselves and encourages them to explore any issues they may have, offering a safe place to show your emotions. His love really shone through when I became injured (no fault of Toon of course), not only did this restrict the work I could do it also meant medical trips and medication, he cared for me in a way I don't think anyone has every done in my life! Giving me all the possible advice, making sure I was eating/drinking all the right things, ensuring I was resting, even cleaning & dressing my wound most days. He even found me jobs which I could do whilst resting, as I wanted to be giving something back to him. I got the chance to meet some of Toons friends and local people in the area, who were all really interesting and lovely. I think about my time spent with Toon everyday, about the days we would spend giggling and dancing around, practicing my knots, building fires, giving thanks to the world and all the love I felt there.
I could write all day about how much of an incredible opportunity this workaway is, but you should just go and experience it!
