Hello! My name is Sophia. I'm from Madison, Wisconsin, USA. I'm looking for hands-on learning experiences to learn more about caring for the Earth and its creatures. I would like to increase my knowledge by working closely with people who are passionate about their work and are willing to share their experience and expertise.

I would love to learn more about sustainable agriculture (especially permaculture), animal husbandry, food preservation, and sustainable building practices. In general, I'm always keen to learn more about all the work that goes into maintaining a farm or homestead and taking care of animals.

Some of my hobbies include swimming, biking, hiking, gardening, cooking, and arts & crafts, especially ceramics. I love to enjoy the natural beauty of our world and enjoy being around animals of all shapes and sizes.

I've volunteered through workaway before each experience was incredible and informative. Outside of workaway I've had other volunteer experiences such as working on the Heifer International Ranch, sea turtle conservation , pet adoptions, food pantries, and doing household chores for seniors citizens in my community.

My work experience includes: 10 years in the restaurant industry (waitress and bartending), 5 years of seasonal farm work on an organic vegetable farm including managing a weekly farmers market stand, and 2.5 years in the veterinary medicine field with 1 year of experience as a certified veterinary technician. I also do smaller side jobs around my city such as gardening, painting, pet sitting, shopping, and lending a helping hand with whatever someone may need.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am a certified veterinary technician by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. I have clinical animal care experience with cats and dogs, although we covered both big and small animals in my program.

I have experience working on a farm, gardening, harvesting crops, planting, building compost, general maintenance, experience with basic tools and machinery, and cleaning. I'm also a quick learner, team player, and like to maintain a positive attitude. :)

Additionally, I have customer service skills from navigating a busy restaurant environment for many years.
