Description
We are Gwen and Leon. We’re 21 years old and from the UK. We are both study politics-related courses at university in London but come from the countryside.

We are both very open-minded and curious people who love an adventure. We are very hard-working and active (mentally and physically) and we love trying new things. We are broadly interested in politics, literature, architecture, cinema, and we go out to watch live music regularly.

I (Gwen), love to cook and run and I have some experience on sustainable projects and on permaculture gardens in Wales and in France. I am also an amateur woodworker, mostly making gates and spoons. I speak Welsh and French and I would like to learn Italian.

Leon loves to read, play guitar, and cycle and he’s getting ready for his year abroad in Italy starting in September so is looking to practice his Italian.

We’re interested in learning some building and renovation skills and gaining more knowledge and experience of sustainable living. Thank you!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I (Gwen) have skills and knowledge of regenerative farming projects, permaculture gardening and improving sustainability in school and at university (as a prefect/ green transition committee member). I am a creative and adaptable problem-solver and I’m not afraid of getting stuck in to a job. I forage, knit and woodwork.

Leon has worked for an architectural conservation firm and has experience with architectural drawings and knowledge of historic architecture.

We’ve both had jobs in hospitality which has taught us discretion, customer service and how to keep cool in a crisis. We are both physically fit and work very well as a team.

Paul and Kasya are two of the most generous people I have met. I really loved their lifestyle and the way they eat, which is whole foods and mostly plant based with the main meal of the day being a late lunch (instead of late dinner where I come from). I improved my French so much in the time that I spent with Paul and I learnt so much about… read more gardening. I especially loved Paul’s no-waste attitude, particularly when conserving water. Unfortunately, I had to cut my 3 week stay a few days short due to student visa complications which I had to urgently solve. Overall, I really enjoyed my time with Paul and Kasya despite having very different ideologies and philosophies on life, death, Covid-19, climate change and many more topics. It was my first time encountering people with less mainstream views and it was interesting to discuss with them, but at times I felt as though I wasn’t being true to myself for not standing up for my own opinions. I was contemplating whether or not to write about my experience, but I think I would have liked to have known about this before I decided to stay with Paul and I hope it is useful for other workawayers.

Paul et Kasya sont deux des personnes les plus généreuses que j’ai rencontrées. J’ai beaucoup aimé leur mode de vie et leur façon de manger. J’ai tellement amélioré mon français dans le temps que j’ai passé avec Paul et j’ai appris sur le jardinage. J’ai particulièrement aimé l’attitude sans gaspillage de Paul, en particulier lors de la conservation de l’eau. Malheureusement, j’ai dû réduire mon séjour de 3 semaines de quelques jours en raison de complications de visa étudiant que j’ai dû résoudre de toute urgence. Dans l’ensemble, j’ai vraiment apprécié mon temps avec Paul et Kasya malgré leurs idéologies et philosophies très différentes sur la vie, la mort, le Covid-19, le changement climatique et bien d’autres sujets. C’était la première fois que je rencontrais des gens avec des points de vue moins « mainstream » et c’était intéressant de discuter avec eux, mais j’avais parfois l’impression de ne pas être fidèle à moi-même pour ne pas défendre mes propres opinions. Je me demandais si je devais laisser des commentaires sur mon expérience, mais je pense que j’aurais aimé savoir à ce sujet avant de décider de rester avec Paul et j’espère que c’est utile pour les autres workawayers.
