Hello! My name is Hortense, and I’m from France, near the beautiful Jura mountains. I'm an open-minded and adventurous person currently taking a gap year to explore the world, connect with new people, and make a positive impact. I love stepping out of my comfort zone, embracing new challenges, and learning from different cultures. Whether it's through travel, sports, or volunteering, I'm always looking for ways to grow and contribute.

I have already traveled solo to the United States and lived in Barcelona, experiences that have helped me become adaptable and independent. Being outdoors and feeling useful is something I truly enjoy, which is why I’m excited to take on new experiences through Workaway.

I have experience teaching gymnastics to kids, which has strengthened my patience, leadership, and ability to connect with others. I also worked in a nursing home for a month, where I developed strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and resilience. In addition, I have worked during the summer as a maintenance and cleaning agent at a swimming pool, which taught me responsibility and teamwork.

Growing up near the mountains, I have witnessed firsthand the impact of climate change, especially the decreasing snowfall over the years. This has made me more aware of environmental issues and the importance of sustainability. I want to contribute to meaningful projects that help protect our planet, whether through eco-friendly initiatives, sustainable agriculture, or community-driven environmental actions.

Beyond work, I am passionate about sports and reading. I love the way books allow me to escape into different worlds, sparking my imagination and curiosity.
I'm excited to meet new people, learn new skills, and contribute wherever I go. Looking forward to the adventures ahead!

I love learning new languages and sharing my knowledge with others. As a native French speaker, I learned English both in school and through language stays in the United Kingdom and Ireland. I would be more than happy to help others improve their French or English I also studied Spanish in school, but my level is more intermediate. Currently, I am staying in Barcelona, which gives me the opportunity to practice speaking and understanding the language on a daily basis. I am highly motivated to continue improving and immersing myself in the Spanish culture.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am currently taking a gap year from my studies in chemical engineering and material chemistry to learn more about myself and explore different cultures around the world.

I am an avid reader, but I also love spending time gardening at my parents' and grandparents' houses. Both activities allow me to disconnect, recharge, and enjoy the present moment.

Sports have also played an important role in my life, I practiced gymnastics for many years, which led me to become an instructor for 7 year-old girls for three years. When I moved across France for university, sports became a good way to connect with new people and I realised I enjoyed team sport such as volleyball and rugby even more.

I have worked for two summers as a maintenance agent and receptionist at an outdoor swimming pool, where I took care of the lawn, cleaned facilities, and managed ticket sales. I also had the opportunity to work in a nursing home for a month, assisting elderly residents with daily tasks such as eating, bathing, and dressing. These experiences have strengthened my adaptability, teamwork, and ability to connect with people from different backgrounds

I am curious and love challeging myself thanks to new adventures. I have already traveled solo in United States and I lived in Barcelona, Spain for 6 months, both experiences allowed me to grow and meet increduble people.
