Holaaaa! My name is Lily, I'm from the south of the UK from a very small village in the countryside. I love being as emmersed in nature as possible, I often disappear into the moors and forests of the UK for days at a time, I love swimming in the sea and being on the coast as much as possible! This is my third year going travelling, my beautiful travel partner and good friend Mia and I are keen to concour wonderful South America, meet friends and practice our Spanish. It has always been a dream for both of us to one day own a sustainable farm as a community, and workaway is a great way to learn how to do this! We're super excited to learn as much as we can about sustainable farming and living in close communities with people from all over the world. Nothing is more wonderful than connecting with people from all corners of this beautiful planet <3

For a long time I’ve wanted to be able to speak another language fluently, I hate not being able to talk to locals in their own language, it feels so ignorant! I want to be able to speak and learn about culture in the correct language so I can gain a better understanding on a more personal level. Spanish is the language i’m currently learning as I’ve been on and off practicing it for so long!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
In terms of skills, I have a lot of knowledge in animal care, I worked closely with horses from the age of 5-16 and have recently worked on horse rescue farms. I have always had cats and dogs, and have also helped care for goats, chickens, rodents, cows and sheep. I'm looking to improve my DIY skills and general farm maintenance, as well as knowledge of permaculture and subsistence farming. Currently I work and live on a farm which becomes a campsite in August, work there includes cleaning, building shelves and toilets, and eventually general customer services.

Tina and Alan are a lovely couple and were very kind and welcoming to me. Although there is no food given, the work reflects that and is very fair. The animals are fantastic! My time on Rafa and Carmen's farm was great. Both Rafa and Carmen are very friendly and although we struggled to communicate they were very patient with me and always kind. Both of them along with all of their animals made me feel very welcome!
The room was great, clean and very comfortable, there is a smaller gas cooker and plenty of cooking… read more equipment and space for food storage.
There is enough water and if it runs out Carmen or Rafa fill it back up almost immediately.
Although I was buying my own food, Carmen and Rafa gave us eggs whenever we needed and we could help ourselves to oranges as there are a lot!
The work is hard but very rewarding, if you are used to working with animals it won't be a problem for you, but if you're looking for easy work this won't be the place for you.
Rafa and Carmen didn't mind that my Spanish was bad, but if being able to communicate is important to you then make sure you can speak a decent amount of Spanish. I got by fine with the little Spanish I can speak and I have definitely improved a lot, with a little help from Google Translate along the way!
Overall this is a great place to stay and if you love animals all kinds of animals then there is no doubt that you will love it here!

Mi tiempo en la finca de Rafa y Carmen fue genial. Tanto Rafa como Carmen son muy amables y, aunque nos costaba comunicarnos, fueron muy pacientes conmigo y siempre amables. ¡Ambos junto con todos sus animales me hicieron sentir muy bienvenido!
La habitación era excelente, limpia y muy cómoda, hay una cocina de gas más pequeña y muchos equipos de cocina y espacio para almacenar alimentos.
Hay agua suficiente y si se acaba Carmen o Rafa la vuelven a llenar casi de inmediato.
Aunque estaba comprando mi propia comida, Carmen y Rafa nos dieron huevos cuando los necesitábamos y podíamos ayudarnos con naranjas, ¡hay muchas!
El trabajo es duro pero muy gratificante, si estás acostumbrado a trabajar con animales no será un problema para ti, pero si buscas un trabajo fácil este no será el lugar para ti.
A Rafa y Carmen no les importó que mi español fuera malo, pero si poder comunicarte es importante para ti, entonces asegúrate de poder hablar una cantidad decente de español. Me las arreglé bien con el poco español que puedo hablar y definitivamente he mejorado mucho, ¡con un poco de ayuda de Google Translate en el camino!
En general, este es un excelente lugar para quedarse y si amas a los animales de todo tipo, ¡no hay duda de que te encantará este lugar!
