I love learning new things, which is why I like to travel! I like seeing new places, trying new foods, and learning local customs and languages. I speak three languages natively (German, Italian, and English) and am working on my fourth and fifth (French and Spanish). I also like to hike, climb, make music (though I’m not a big improviser), and use my hands, though admittedly I haven’t had much of a chance to do that over the last few years while studying. Looking forward to the next adventure!

I love languages. I speak three languages natively (German, Italian, and English) and am working on my fourth and fifth (French and Spanish). I also always try to pick up as much as I can wherever I visit -- that's how I learned to read (though not speak/understand) Korean, and normally can at least stumble through interactions in most European languages.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
- I speak German, Italian, and (American) English natively and with no accent
- I studied mathematics and computer science (Bachelor’s) and also have a PhD in computer science (specializing in cryptography, which includes areas like encryption technologies and digital signatures)
- I am not a professional programmer, but I do have experience creating websites from scratch (HTML, CSS) and writing programs to automate tasks or implement cryptography as part of my research. For example, I created a little program for my mom that uses a barcode scanner to scan her books and inserts titles, authors, etc. in a Google Spreadsheet for her.
- I have kept my houseplants and others’ (plant-sitting) alive decently well, and I would love to learn more about gardening
- I cook most meals for myself, mostly simple Italian cuisine (pasta with various sauces, lasagna, eggplant parmesan) and have a few curries in my repertoire. I cook mostly vegetarian food. I also make a good tiramisu.
- I’m not a handyman but I can hold my own assembling furniture, changing lightbulbs, and other tasks like that around the house. When I lost one of the plastic legs of my Christmas tree, I 3D-modeled a new one to replace it. I also cut and stained some wooden slats myself to create a display for my national park postcard collection.
- As I’ve said, I love to learn! I’m a quick learner so I’m happy to take on some new challenges and learn new skills :)

I love board and card games! In the past, I've played a lot of Settlers of Catan and other classic games. I also play a lot of trick-taking card games, mostly the German games Skat and Doppelkopf. I am also a big Dungeons & Dragons player -- I've been playing since 2015 and I've run some of my own campaigns, including a few aimed at teaching the game to beginners.
Besides that, I like to read, play some sports like ultimate frisbee, play piano and flute, and hopefully find some time to get better at drawing and painting.
