We are a French family, and live near Clermont-Ferrand, center of France, surrounded by the mountains.
We love to travel, but above all to meet people, to have experiences, to lear new things, for us and for our two daughters. We want to be useful to society, do things that are meaningful and give good values to our children: mutual aid, work, listening, empathy, learning, creativity, protection of our planet.
I run a bulk, zero waste grocery store in my town, and Aurélie, my wife, works in financial auditing in a large company.

Thanks to our education and career, we have skills in Accounting, Marketing, Sales, organization, finance, digital, communication.
We are also rather comfortable in transmitting information, like teaching (English, French or Music- I play the Piano).
But more importantly, we also want to learn about other areas such as: market gardening, permaculture, eco-construction, ect...
We are fast learners and are able to intelligently reproduce learned tasks.
Each year we do a small vegetable garden to grow some vegetables in our garden.

We spent 10 days with Zaki and Yati at the very beginning of our 4-month family trip — and what a perfect way to start.

From the first day, we were welcomed like part of the family. It wasn't just about staying in someone's home; it was about being included in their everyday life, in their beautiful, vibrant, and generous world. Zaki and Yati… read more have an incredible sense of hospitality — they give with their whole heart, and they make you feel at home straight away.

Their place is full of life and warmth. It's open, authentic, with a lovely view over the pound, and even a treehouse (that may be you could still help Zaki to improve)!
Friends and family come and go all the time, which makes the place feel very alive and dynamic — just like them.

And then, there’s the food. Zaki and Yati have a real talent for bringing people together through food — it’s their way of celebrating guests. We were lucky to enjoy so many delicious local dishes (special mention to the home-made Pizzas), and even got the chance to cook a few things ourselves and share a bit of our own food culture. It was a beautiful exchange.

The work is not too demanding, and Zaki is very relaxed. You’re free to take initiative — cleaning, helping in the kitchen, picking up leaves or trash around the lake, joining Zaki in the garden, or just giving a hand wherever you feel needed.

Speaking of the garden — going to the farm with Zaki was one of the highlights. His little “Garden of Eden” is full of love, patience, and life. It’s inspiring. Even the way to go through the palm trees is very nice with the motorcycle !

Our daughters also had a great time with the kids. Even though they didn’t speak the same language, they found their own way to play and connect. It was heartwarming to watch.

Zaki also made time to show us around — from local markets to the nearby town or more touristic spots. You can feel he genuinely enjoys sharing and making sure you get the most out of your stay.

The village of Lurah Bilut is charming, with smiling people, little shops, and an incredible Roti Canai stall you shouldn't miss!

We left with full hearts, feeling like we were saying goodbye to family. This stay was a true highlight, and we couldn’t have wished for a better way to begin our journey.
