Hello! We are Talvi and Andres, two Estonians aged 50+ who love travelling and adventures. Estonia is a small, lovely country in Europe on the shores of the Baltic Sea between Finland, Russia, Latvia, and Sweden. For the last 12 years we have been living and working in Finland, which is Estonia’s northern neighbour. Winter is cold and dark in Estonia and Finland. Winter lasts at least from November to March and there is no sunshine.... But we and our old bones love sunshine and warmth and that is what we are looking for! 🙂

We’ve been together for 15 years and during those years we’ve been travelling together every year, always in warm countries. We have travelled a lot in Europe, but also much further afield. We have been to Morocco, Gambia and Senegal, the Cape Verde Islands, the Canary Islands. On the other side of the globe, we have travelled to Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, Belize, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, Ecuador, and a little bit of the United States. Our big favourites are Cuba and Mexico.

But now it’s time for us to move to somewhere warmer permanently. To make the right decision, we want to get to know different countries and cultures. We think that Workaway is a very good opportunity for this – you live, work and interact with local people, get to know local life, learn the language and customs, etc. And we`d like to tray it.

More information about us. Talvi is a 55-year-old woman who can do many jobs. She has a daughter and a 4-year-old and a 6 months old granddaughters. Over the years, Talvi has worked as a bartender, hotel receptionist and tour guide, among other things. Talvi is a lawyer by education (Master of Laws) and she has worked for many years in the Estonian judicial system and as a migration control officer in the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board. Few years ago, Talvi took up woodworking and furniture restoration and has worked as an antique furniture restorer and as an instructor in a woodworking and handicraft workshop. In October 2024, Talvi also trained in gilding under a top master in Finland. Talvi is skilled in sewing and modelling clothes, furniture restoration, woodworking, gilding and much more. Talvi also likes animals, especially dogs and turtles.

Andres is 52 years old and a big strong man. Andres also has an adult daughter. Andres is good at repairing different things and can fix almost any car. He has been repairing cars all his life. He has been working in BMW services in Estonia and Finland over 25 years. Andres loves old American cars, and his dream is to own and fix one himself one day. Andres is also a good cook.

We can do a lot of jobs. We are decent and reasonable people, and we will keep your home tidy and your animals fed 🙂. We can do lighter construction and repair work, simpler woodwork, and furniture restoration. We are happy to take care of animals, do gardening and discover new and interesting things.

Talvi speaks Estonian, Finnish, English, Russian, a little bit Spanish and started learning Italian. Andres speaks Estonian, Finnish, English and Russian and also started learning Italian. We are happy to learn the language of each country and adopt its customs. Our Jack Russell terrier Mr Erwin, who is almost 15 years old and is in good shape, is travelling with us.

Although our favourite destinations are on the other side of the world, our new home will probably still be in southern Europe - Italy or Spain. We will probably start from those countries. The choice also depends on where we can get to by car and how long our dog Erwin will be with us.
We are spending a winter 2024-2025 in Italy Puglia.

You did in fact do too much!! Its supposed to be a working holiday with cultural exchange and sometimes I thought you were doing too much, BUT am very grateful.

We arrived in Italy in December 2024 with a plan to spend the winter in Puglia, to rent a house in a couple of different places and look for a possible new home. At the end of January Linda contacted us and offered a workaway opportunity in April. We liked this plan, but since we were traveling with a 15-year-old Jack Russell, Mr Erwin, who is not… read more used to living with other animals, and Linda has many!!! animals, we were a little bit worried about how the animals would get along.
In February we drove to Linda`s home to see the situation among the animals. From the first moment it felt like we were old acquaintances - it was so easy to communicate with Linda.
Our dog and Linda`s animals got along well and so we spent April 2025 at Linda`s house. And it was a great time for us and for our dog Erwin too! We had a 4-day workaway experience before, so we could say that this month with Linda was our first "proper" workaway experience. After 4 month of vacation, it was wonderful to do work, to do something necessary. We prepared for the summer season. Andres washed the yard and garden walls and painted the walls white again. He repaired the garden furniture and did other routine repairs. The biggest job was emptying the pool of old water, cleaning it properly and refilling it. Andres also cut the grass and daily cleaned the pool. Talvi`s biggest job was sewing new covers for the cushions of the outdoor furniture. And there is a lot of outdoor furniture in Linda`s household :). Talvi also helped with other ongoing tasks.
Linda is amazing! She has incredible energy, she is a great cook and host, she is a great communicator, she is super caring... And she has a very beautiful home! Linda constantly worried that we weren't working too hard or that we still had enough to eat. We felt embarrassed at times and would have loved to have worked a lot more. We even forbade her from buying beers for Andres, but she still bought... :). Linda included us completely in her life - she took us to her friends and we attended all her parties/dinner parties. When Talvi felt unwell, she immediately took Talvi to the doctor. Linda even took our house-searching very seriously - she gave us advice and looked for suitable houses for us. We got to know the local people and local life, enjoyed local drinks and food, just like we had wanted when we arrived in Italy in December. We got many new friends and many-many great experiences and memories. We were like one happy family. It was our best time in Italy and the best time for our old dog Erwin too. :)
