We had a wonderful time with John and Glenda during our 10-day stay. Their home is nestled in a beautiful and peaceful spot in the middle of the Australian bush.
We learned so much about gardening, native plants, and bush regeneration — John and Glenda are both passionate and knowledgeable, and always happy to share what they know.
Daily life
… read more was lovely and well balanced between work, shared moments, and personal time. We really enjoyed the time around the table, whether cooking or sharing meals (they’re both excellent cooks!).
We also had a lot of fun during games night, appreciated the relaxing yoga session, and loved the musical evenings — not to mention watching John practise his French!
John and Glenda are warm, generous, and truly enjoyable to be around. Their kindness made us feel immediately welcome and at ease.
Thank you both again for everything — and to any Workawayer reading this: don’t hesitate for a second, you’ll be in great hands!
Léo & Romane
What a lovely couple Romane and Léo are — the 10 days they spent with us here flew by quickly! I was even a little sad dropping them off at the bus stop as they continued their travels. Needless to say, Glenda and I thoroughly enjoyed their easygoing and kind-natured company.
From a task perspective, Romane and Léo approached every job with
… read more enthusiasm and diligence, always doing their best — whether it was working in the orchard, removing pest weeds and adding native grasses as part of our bush regeneration program, taming the pumpkin patch, planting seedlings in the veggie garden, or cleaning windows.
We shared the cooking of evening meals (they treated us to some delicious French cuisine), and spent several evenings together playing cards, board games, and exploring some common ground between ‘heavy metal’ and ‘folk’ guitar styles.
Romane and Léo were always eager to learn about “life in the bush” and also very patient and supportive as I tried to revive my schoolboy French!
It was a truly enjoyable cultural exchange … and a productive time working on the property.
Glenda and I wholeheartedly recommend Romane and Léo as 5-star Workawayers.
We only stayed for one week with John & Glenda as we were travelling up north. If we had more time we would have loved to stayed longer and extended no doubts. You will learn a lot about the native Bush land, plants, trees, herbs and local towns like Mullumbimby or Byron Bay as John & Glenda can tell you a lot and teach you so much about where
… read more they live and nutrition. We enjoyed drying the leaves of their nusturtion plants, basil leaves and have it in tea or even made pesto out of it, yuuummm. John & Glenda are great cooks and bakers. It was particularly interesting to learn about the gluten free bread. Their property is located on a hill with incredible views and we were very lucky being hosted at this magical place, in the super cozy cottage/annexe to the main house with amazing views, and a spacious outdoor kitchen. We went grocery shopping at the beginning of our stay and Glenda made sure we have anything and everything we need to prepare nice meals throughout our stay. So caring and loving, patient and happy people in everything they do. We appreciate they shared their time, wisdom and knowledge with us. It was so great working in the orchard pruning trees, you can find mandarines, lemons, avocados, and even a chocolate pudding tree. It was like living in garden eden. Marvin even saw his first snake since we arrived in Australia. We cleaned the windows in the living room, got to weed in the herb garden, planted more beetroot, making some plants ready for winter, mixing up more soil, harvested beans, helped to chop some trees and remote trunks that had fallen after the cyclone. John & Glenda took us to the Mullumbimby market where we could find local products, listen to great live music and see what a social place it is, where community is very important. John is a skilled musician and we enjoyed our session with a Cajon, a guitar, shakers and singing while sitting by the fire. Jacob the son and his partner Anne are just as sweet, we shared a family dinner, went out to a pub together another night and enjoyed the time with fun people in our age just as much as the Yoga session in the morning where we met other community members of Ohana, we were so lucky being able to join a session the first morning after arriving at Glenda & John's. One other morning we made our way down to Byron before working and went for a lovely beach walk, John even went for a swim. What an energizing start into the day. Other afternoons we checked out the property and walked the fire trail or walked the hill up and down just for a nice long walk/workout. We appreciated having such beautiful nature just in front of the door and it was great to live in the green lush forest. It was literally like living in a postcard. The last evening we played grandma's game, a cards game which was so much fun as well. We could go on and on with dwelling in thoughts of this amazing week and already miss this and hope to make our way back down soon just to spend more quality time with John & Glenda.
John & Glenda: It has been an absolute pleasure living with you. Thank for sharing your travel stories, your time, place and work with us, we enjoyed this experience truly and to full extend. We hope to stay in touch and keep each other posted what's going on in our lives. Wishing you lovely workaway experiences meanwhile and all the best for the upcoming months. Sending big hugs over to Ohana, Huon & both of you. 🤗❤️ Lau & Marv
Laura and Marvin were a joy to host, they are an enthusiastic, considerate and easygoing couple and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the time we have shared together.

I was especially delighted by their curiosity and eagerness to learn about my herb garden … happy to sample various leaves and flowers along the way! We enjoyed many new herbal tea concoctions, and the nasturtium pesto was definitely a culinary highlight. 😋
Marvin is a talented cook, and Laura also skilled in the kitchen —together, they make a great team, whether helping with meal preparation or treating us to a special dinner. Our evening meal times felt like daily celebrations—relaxed, lots of laughter, sprinkled with songs or tunes and a wonderful time to connect through shared stories of adventures and experiences.
We are genuinely delighted to consider Laura and Marvin part of our growing global family and highly recommend them as Workaway guests and helpers.

Campbell is also very accomplished in the kitchen and cooked some wonderful meals.
Kirstie is a valuable member of the team, supporting and helping out at every level. Her diligence and dedication to completing a task means that it gets done! 😊

Jade came for a week and stayed a month! Needless to say, she was a diligent helper, respectfully independent and proved to be a lovely kindred spirit.
Our circumstances were a little unusual when Jade applied for a placement …Glenda was recovering from a back injury and we were midway through developing a renovation project. We knew there would
… read more be limited time for us to spend with Jade but after a brief chat on the phone, we were able to negotiate an arrangement so that our mutual needs were met.
Although Glenda wasn’t often able to work alongside her, Jade quickly learnt her way around the veggie garden and managed to keep it thriving. Jade also fertilised and mulched the citrus orchard and with John’s guidance, discovered a passion and flare for pruning 😊. Unfortunately we were at the peak of our leech and bitey insect season but Jade soon made peace with the critters and was able to relax gracefully into the flow of rural living.
After her initial 2 weeks, we were delighted when Jade was able to extend her stay to ‘house sit’ for us and we could enjoy a brief holiday, confident that our home was being well cared for. Jade was also invited to teach Glenda’s weekly yoga class and received glowing approval from the students.
In general, Jade was a godsend … quietly confident and capable, providing support for us at a time when we needed it and was always happy to help out with the various tasks requested.
We’ve enjoyed Jade’s peaceful presence and are very grateful for our time shared. Looking forward to our paths crossing again sometime.

I spent 4 amazing weeks with Glenda and John on their stunning property up in the hills just outside of Mullumbimby. The room was very comfortable with an outdoor kitchen (under the garage). I am quite happy working on my own, so if you are not used to your own company this may not be the place for you.. and I had my own car to get around, so I would recommend this Workaway for people who have their own transportation as there is no public transport in town. You have the creek down the road, which was lovely for a refreshing swim after a hot day in the garden, and the beach is a 25min drive away. Lots of cute cafes and shops in town, and an amazing dance community if that's your jam! Overall, I would highly recommend this stay for couples/friends and folks with their own transportation :) Thanks again Glenda and John, and hope to visit soon!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.
