I stayed with Jake and Silvia for 4 weeks and I don`t think I have enough words to explain how good my experience was. This was my first workaway experience and I couldn't start in a better way, actually I wouldn`t recommend as the first experience because the next ones will be really difficult to compete. … read more part of the family making me feel comfortable to go to the house whenever I want, just to chat or to grab something to eat.
The work was really fun and always something new came up, so I wasnt`t bored at all, Jake and I build a very nice wood fence around the house. I would also do some gardening, cleaning the house from times to times, painting, sanding, cooking and helping them with the kids. By the way, the kids are lovely, really easy to take care, I got really close to both of them, little Sammy and Kyran, and I am sure I will never forget them. Jake and Silvia are wonderful people, really easy going and good to chat for any topics. They would always take me whenever they would go and introduce me to all their friends. We had amazing meals, beers, wines, beach days and laughs.
At first I stayed in one of the cabines they rent, so it was a lovely room with private bathroom and everything was so clean. Later as they got some booking in the cabines I had to move into Jake`s studio that is also a nice room with private bathroom and a nice bed. I had a really comfortable staying.
As for El Palmar... Be prepared to be amazed by such a good surfing/beach vibe with amazing beaches and sunsets. Jake always lend me his surfing equipments and took me to surf whenever he would go. I got some pretty amazing waves during my stay.

Natalie is a lovely girl. She is very friendly, can cook well and was happy to do any of the jobs we asked of her.
She´s a brave and adventurous 18yr old and she is capable of many things I am sure.
I guess the only thing she was missing is more experience and maybe a little more confidence. Both things that come to you if you are motivated to

The family is amazing, they are very open minded and welcoming. In my free time they would always introduce me to their friends and I could join their plans. As the kids are quite young, their social life is mostly centered around families with kids of the same age,
… read more which was funny but a bit overwhelming sometimes.
In terms of work I mostly cleaned the house and the houses they rent or did some gardening in the morning, cooked lunch and sometimes prepared dinner. Then after lunch I was free to go to the beach, take surf classes (and enjoy the most beautiful sunsets of my life!!) or just chill around the house. Their property is so beautiful! The house is situated around 10 min. walking distance from the beach and I could always borrow a bike.
During these times El Palmar was really quiet and it was not that easy to meet other people, but because I was always welcome to spend time with the family, that wasn’t too bad either.

It was a pleasure to have Simon with us. he was here for around 3 weeks and he fitted in just fine. He´s a very good cook, helped me with various painting jobs, gardening etc. He was happy to get stuck in on the harder messier jobs and seems like someone who likes to get things finished properly.

He seemed to us to be a very reliable and disciplined person.
His English is pretty good and his Spanish needs practice but is good enough to get by on simple stuff.

I had a great time at Silvias and Jake's lovely home. The kid's Sam and Kyran are very sweet boys and I´ve enjoyed my time with this amazing family from my first hour to my last day totally. The work was nice, like gardening or cooking and I had great conservations with both, Silvia and Jake. El Palmar is a nice spot for long walks at the beach or
… read more the surf. I could borrow the old board from Silvia to take my first steps. I will never forget the day when Jake took me out for a surf in the morning. It was amazing. Silvia is lovely. Really friendly and easy going. She is definitely a hard worker and does everything with dedication and care. She cooks great Italian food, a delicious tiramisu, and really looked after the house well. She was lovely and warm with the kids and just a pleasure to have around. … read more the kids with a few household tasks when needed. I had my own room separate from the house with a shower so it was like having my own comfortable nook. The family is incredible at making you feel at home, introducing you to friends, listening to things you'd like to do and helping you make the most of your time. On top of this, El Palmar is one of the most beautiful coasts I've ever stayed on (coming from a Californian!), and you are barely 10 minutes walking from the house to the beach. I don't know how or why I ever left, honestly! Our time at Silvia and Jake's place was magnificant! They are definitely one of the best hosts you can wish for.
They always made sure that we had everything we need and made the best of our stay during those 10 days.
We most of the time arranged the working hours together one or two days in advance and at the same time we had the possibility to
… read more occasionally change the exact times spontaneously according to our individual plans. There were always different things to do: Working in the garden, helping in the houshold, cleaning, looking after their little boy or playing with the older one. We really enjoyed helping you with these things!
We always had lunch and dinner together and the food was sooo good and healthy - it'll stay in our minds forever :o !
In our free time we could easily take the bus to visit Cádiz, visit the area around with their bikes (which we always could borrow) or just enjoy time at the beautiful beach.
