Dear fellow travelers,
We were supposed to spend two weeks at Karen’s family farm… 8 months later, we were still there. After one year of travels around Asia, we couldn’t wish to land in a better place. Edo and I felt so warmly welcomed, as family members, since the very first day.
The farm is so vast that you’ll never get the chance to be
… read more bored. We had a lot of diverse work opportunities as fixing the orchard net, collecting horse manure, feed the horses, picking rocks and driving bobcat and tractor for fields preparation (plowing and harrowing), maintaining the aquaponic greenhouse system.
Also, what we enjoyed the most was setting up a permaculture garden for the family, from weeding to harvest.. Total freedom has been given to us to lead this project and develop our creativity.
So, if you’re a farm lover, independent and responsible for your own daily needs, ready to get muddy, keen to learn, plenty of initiatives, this should be the right place for you.
Karen was everyday full of new fun projects and positive energy, very busy also with other stuff outside the farm.
So please don’t take advantage of it, that’s not an air bnb ! The working hours were very flexible and we had plenty of free time. Karen has been so cute with us, inviting us for stunning explorations around.
We are so grateful for the time we spent with the family and to contribute to the improvement of the farm.
We keep this experience with the family in our hearts.
See you soon 🐑🐑🐑

Hellen was a wonderful workaway guest who really fit in well with everyone. She was happy to be flexible and helped in all areas, from feeding to exercising the horses, helping doing a lot of manual labour collecting rocks to get the new hay field ready for seeding and many other general garden and farm tasks. She is a kind and warm person and I

I had an incredibly fun time on the farm. I was supposed to stay for two weeks, but it turned into four. During those weeks, we worked on preparing the field for planting and building a fence for the garden. You spend a lot of time outdoors, which is wonderful. Thank you for all the hospitality, the things you taught me, and the fun times we shared 💗
Sydney and Marley made amazing contributions to the farm. Both are great company and lovely people. They both helped with ploughing, gardening, looking after the horses, building new vegie gardens and more. I highly recommend them.

Ian was a great help and managed to really make a difference in his short stay with us, including making a great shelter for Cosmo, our mini horse. Ian was great company and a hard worker with plenty of initiative. We wish him the very best.
I had an excellent week at this Workaway! The welcome was warm, and the work schedule is well-optimized to make the most of the region. It’s a true haven of peace where life is good. Karen is a wonderful and welcoming person. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great experience!
Evann and Mathilde made a great contribution to our farm in their short stay with us, helping with the horses and finishing off building a sheep shelter. They were great at working independently and were kind and helpful.
Chloe & Dan were our first workaways and the reason we have continued to host. They are both truly amazing people and a wonderful couple. Both have a range of skills that never ceased to amaze us and they helped us more than we ever expected. Chloe is great with horses and is very knowledgeable. Both worked really hard in the garden, the orchard

Karen & Ulli are wonderful, and their hobby farm is such a special place to be.
We intended to stay two weeks, and stayed two months! If that doesn't tell you how amazing a place it is, then nothing will.
We did a range of tasks - gardening, helping fix netting in the orchard, harvesting macadamias, driving the tractor, organising the workshop

The hospitality of everybody who lives on the farm was beyond expectations. We enjoyed meals together, explored the local area together, and Lorraine (Karen's mum) took us on a day tour around Augusta, a real highlight!
I loved helping Karen with the horses, three such different characters!
We also got to meet other workaways who came and went during our time there, and really enjoyed this too.
Thank you Karen and Ulli for such a perfect start to our travels, we miss you and the farm!

Karen and Ulli were incredibly welcoming and made me feel comfortable right away. The work that I did was quite different to work that I've done before and there was a lot of variety in the work to be done. Among the jobs were sewing up holes in an orchard, driving a tractor, cutting carpet, taking care of chickens (and of course the rooster
… read more Harold) and general gardening. We would all eat meals together, the food was great- healthy and nutritious, with good variety, when it was possible we often had home grown fruit and veg. I had my own room in a house with a workaway couple who have become life long friends. Usually we would start work in the morning at around 9AM and finish for 1PM, but this was pretty flexible, then had the afternoon to myself where I might go for a row in the boat or a swim in the dam or go to the beach. Karen and Ulli took us on some great days out including a trip to Busselton Pier, an art show, out for a meal and scenic coastal walks. The farm itself was beautiful with lots of exploring to be done, the property set in the middle of a vineyard made for a lovely view everyday, I especially loved the swimming dam.
I had a lovely time here and have left with very fond memories (and a teddy spider). Thank you so much for being a part of my Australian journey. Thank you for everything.Feito pelo anfitrião para o Workawayer (Megan)
It was wonderful having Megan with us. She was up for learning new things, including driving the tractor and finding a new appreciation for spiders. Megan challenged herself to step outside her comfort zone and really was a great asset to everyone on the farm.
