Hello everyone!

We are Nicolas and Sophie, a couple from the French Alps going to discover Canada in depth through experiences in woofing or workaway (as we had already done in New Zealand and Europe).
What makes us HAPPY is to live unique experiences with simple and passionate people.

Nicolas likes to be outside, know the nature that surrounds him, adapt to it and manage it. Being manual, he uses his hands during his free time to carry out construction and renovation projects, in addition to doing sports and going on adventures.

Sophie also enjoys nature but also meetings and moments of sharing with people. Worker, both inside and outside, she likes to feel useful and does not fear the tasks considered "masculine".

We LOOOVE the great outdoors, mountains, forests and the sea. In the future, we want to live in harmony with our planet and its inhabitants. For this, we count on this trip to discover, learn and inspire us from you, your way of thinking and what you have built. We are here to help, we love the exchange and we seek sharing. Sobriety, independent, sutainable and off-grid living, eco-responsible alternatives, mutual aid… are terms that drive us and we are eager for experiences related to this.

Quais são suas habilidades?
Nicolas's background in France:
Nicolas worked on the management and maintenance of municipal water networks (leak research and repair, plumbing, pipe tracing, maintenance of water network elements, hydraulic modification...). Before moving into water works, he also did studies and internships in nature management and protection.
Nicolas owns an apartment that he has completely renovated during his free time, before renting it. He also owns with these parents a barn in the middle of a forest of 4 hectares. Regularly, he goes there to maintain the forest and make firewood, do the maintenance of the barn and carry out small construction projects or gardening.
He wants to do things right from the start to the end. He likes to be helpful and serious in his work.

Nicolas experiences in Canada:
-25h of excavator (stamps removing)
-150h of bobcat
-2,5 months experience as a sawyer on a small sawmill.
-Many exepriences with chainsaws and tree cutting.
-Building renovations
-Full construction of a 200 m² shed
-Construction of a 50 m² shed
-Chickens, sheeps, cows and baby goats care on farms
-Landscaping/gardening/prunning/digging tranches/painting
-Many experiences with making firewood.

Sophie 's background in France:
Sophie studied tourism, she knows how to welcome and have a good contact with people in general. She loves versatility, she has created atypical/unusual accommodations, worked in the restaurant (receptionist, waitress and bartender) and also in butcher!

Sophie's experiences in Canada:
-Many experiences about gardening

-Cook on a restaurant for the summer season

We like to occupy ourselves with our hands and achieve things. No way to stick on the sofa, if we come to you, it is to get our hand dirty!

Nicolas: Paragliding, walking and hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, surfing, skiing, paret, badminton and evening entertainment (DJ) and playing music.
Sophie: walking, drawing and painting, cooking, mushroom hunting, badminton and paret.

Nico and Sophie were here for 4 months and were an absolute pleasure to host. Sophie made wooden signs to direct guests on the property, as well as organizing accommodations and other tasks. We arrived in Tahsis early may with the idea of staying 3 weeks. However, the following morning, we already knew that we were gonna stay a bit longer than planed at the farm...

Darren is a great host, he welcomed us very well. Serious and profesionnel when it comes to work, he is also easy going, friendly and funny. He's got a busy life but… read more enjoy doing parties with volunteers. He is the lucky owner of Myra and Tia, the best dogs in the world!
You might also meet Ronny, a great, funny, friendly and very skilled volunteer who is now becoming part of the place as he wants to settle in Tahsis.

There is all kind of projects at the farm. Some easy for everybody and others more complex if you are skilled. While Sophie started to organize the Airbnb part, Nicolas picked up a big project on the list witch was the construction of a 200 sqm shed to park the camping trailers in winter.
After drawing the plans, he cut the trees within the property and used the brand new sawmill from Darren to mill the logs and makes all the lumbers needed.

Time was flying. At this moment, two months were already gone...

As we needed an income this summer, Sophie had found a job at the Marina in Tahsis as a cook. That was her first time working in a kitchen. While doing between 60 and 70 hours a week, she has discovered a vocation. Sophie has to say that working in this small village was sometimes a bit sketchy.. But interesting, she really enjoyed it!

Darren asked Marco, also volunteering at the farm, to joined Nicolas for the construction and it worked out perfectly. Marco was one of the best co-worker Nicolas had in his whole life. They built the shed in 2 months.

It has been a real pleasure! Nicolas learned A LOT from that experience. Darren is an excelent manager. He trusted Nicolas and left him a lot of freedom while working and using machines, so he worked most of time unsupervised. Darren was not far to answer the questions, takes the main decisions and provides help when needed.

There is always a crew of volunteers in the farm. We met awesome people there, friends, that we hope we'll stay in touch and meet again. On free time, we went exploring the surrounding, camping, caving, kayaking, fishing, bushwalking, swiming in rivers next to waterfalls, making parties and campfires (when permitted), watching northern lights, road trips, biking and motorbiking... The atmosphere was just perfect!!

In this piece of paradise, we’ve experienced the lifestyle we were looking for. The Goodbye were difficults... Many great moments will stay with us forever.

Darren; for this opportunity, for you trust and your kindness, thank you very much! We hope this shed will serve you for a long time.
