I am Zhouxin from China, or I really prefer my English name Hope, which I named it by myself. I want to bring hope to people around us.

I just got my master's degree in UW and tried to find ways to explore the world, or Canada for now! It is one life style to study and work regularly, but it is also my dream to get into families and communities, share their laugh and tears, learn everything they know, earn a living with friends. I am looking for some jobs in my major, but there is still plenty time as a gap, for me to do things I really love.

I am a music lover, learning to study piano and guitar like a baby. I love animals and especially dogs, and having one is always a must-do list in my future.I like to cook some Chinese food if you are a fan! Also, I would love to make a living with my hands, having a foot-on-earth lifestyle.

Language and Chinese culture: If you are interested in Chinese culture, please don't hesitate to ask me! I speak Mandarin and English and am happy to introduce you to everything I know about oriental culture!

Physical and mental work: Honestly, you can see from the photo that I am not a muscular person, but I am very happy to participate in all physical work and try new things: housework, gardening, snow shoveling, and construction! For the one that requires thinking, I am skilled in management, the Internet, and all brainstorming ideas!

Amateur chef: I have never been a professional chef, but I am happy to try all new recipes - I have mastered many of my parents' Chinese delicacies, and I hope you can taste them! Of course, I often play a role in the kitchen for unfamiliar dishes. I am happy to learn and exchange this knowledge!

Dealing with animals: I had a dog in my hometown and I love it very much. I am happy to do all tasks related to the domestic pet as long as I can hold it! For the farm part, I will be a rookie but will definitely try.

Hope did not just join our home. He became part of its breath. From the first day, he carried with him a presence that asked for nothing and gave everything. There was no loudness in his arrival, no rush to settle in. He simply arrived gently, like someone who already understood the sacredness of quiet spaces, and who treated our days as something… read more worth treading lightly through.

There is something rare about a person who listens with their whole being, not just to words, but to silences, to rhythms, to what is felt but not spoken. Hope has that gift. He did not need instruction to understand what needed care. He noticed things most people pass by. A bowl left out, a mood shifting in a room, the way light falls in a certain corner. He folded himself into the rhythm of our life without disruption, and in doing so, brought peace into spaces we hadn’t realized needed it.

But it was the bond between Hope and Carl that reached deeper than anything I expected. Carl, who often sits at the edge of memory these days, met Hope not as a stranger, but as someone familiar. They shared time in a way that required no translation. Every evening they sat side by side, guitars in hand, letting the music say what words could not. Sometimes they played. Sometimes they simply existed together in that soft silence that only happens between people who truly see one another. Hope didn’t try to direct or entertain. He was simply there, and that was everything Carl needed. His hands steadied. His voice returned it was stronger and his strumming echoing around the house again. And for those moments, Carl felt entirely himself.

I watched from across the room, again and again, struck by the connection between them. It wasn’t flashy or remarkable to anyone else. But to me, it was a kind of healing. Hope gave Carl dignity, time, friendship. And Carl responded with his whole heart, even if he didn’t have the words for it. Since Hope left, Carl still glances toward the door in the evenings, as if expecting his guitar partner to return. I don’t tell him otherwise. In a way, I’m still waiting too.

Hope also moved with gentleness through the rest of the household. Jigger, our sweet Bernese, became his loyal follower. Our cats, each with their own walls, lowered them without hesitation. The animals trusted him. So did the land. So did we. He helped in quiet, steady ways that made the days feel easier. It wasn’t about what he did. It was about how he did it. With care. With presence. With an attention that felt like grace.

There was never any need to explain ourselves to Hope. He read our world with softness and respect. He knew when to ask, when to hold back, and when to simply sit with what was. That kind of intuition can’t be taught. It comes from a deep inner steadiness, and a rare ability to honour the hearts of others. Hope didn’t just respect our space. He nourished it.

To anyone who may welcome Hope in the future, open your door fully. You will receive far more than help. You will receive a presence that transforms the air around you. He is thoughtful, kind, steady, and profoundly respectful. He brings light without needing to shine it on himself. And when he leaves, something very soft and true will remain, like the last note of a song that lingers in the room long after the player has gone.

Hope, if these words ever reach you in a quiet moment, I want you to know this home still holds you. Carl remembers in ways he can’t explain. The animals still pause outside your room. The evenings still echo with the memory of your music. Your absence is not empty. It is full with everything you gave.
There will always be a seat waiting and a song that begins again whenever you decide to visit again

If I could use one sentence to describe this lovely journey, I would always say: This is a family full of love, and I am so so lucky, to be a member of it.

I want to use countless words to describe the beauty of Maha, Carl, and Arsenye. Maha is strong, kind, and optimistic person. As she said, she is a genius. From the placement of a screw in the… read more room to a bouquet of flowers in the corner, she can give you all the answer around the house. She has the wisdom of the times, but at the same time has high-energy optimism and expectations for small happiness. She would love to dance to her favorite songs, see the changes of spring, summer, autumn and winter and jump for it, and tell jokes that can light up the room. Carl is always humorous, kind, and strong. He always likes to make some dark jokes. I will never forget his beautiful voice with a guitar every night. Those songs that span the ages connect his life and also created lots of stories with me. Arsenye, what a strong and handsome boy at the age of 19! I hope he can be happy in his life, find everything he wants, and have a light in his blue eyes forever.

In this family, cats and dogs are as important as humans. We have three cats and one dog in this house and thanks to the kindness of Maha. I also want to introduce you to this beautiful place by introducing them.

Lucia is the most independent and smartest kitten. When I said goodbye, I often blamed myself for not giving her enough love because of this. Because of cancer, she was either drinking water or lying lazily. She lay on a stool, a bed, a wheelchair, and in the sun. She always found her way home, so there was no need to worry. Looking into her eyes, I always felt that I could not see the bottom. She had the depth and wisdom that only the elderly have, but even though she was only five years old.

Polyanna was the most cheerful and lively kitten. She was more like her brother Jigger and wanted to be a dog. She stuck to Jigger to play with her, took walks with us, liked to play the game of throwing and catching paper balls, and liked to chase insects and geese outside. She was half blind and could not see clearly. When she was young, she didn't eat or drink because she didn't know where the food was. And now she is so healthy and energetic. She is our beloved little princess.

Bella is the most well-behaved and gentle kitten. She is very afraid of people, but she likes to cling to people. She will jump into your arms when you are sitting on the recliner, but she will be scared away as long as someone walks around. She is timid and cute. She is also a big foodie. When opening the cat can, others need to carry it to the bowl, but she has heard the sound and waited on the stool early. The cat climbing frame is her exclusive territory. She looks at everyone from it, and I don’t know what she is thinking.

Jigger, my beloved Jigger, is a handsome Bernese mountain. He never runs around, always carefully not to destroy anything, and greets all of us with his smile and wagging tail. He likes to sit on people’s feet and turn his belly up. Puppies don’t understand a lot, he just wants to play with everyone. When walking outside, he will always behave and he is the sweetest boy in the world.

In addition, we also have stray wild cats, flocks of geese, hummingbirds that love sugar water, and all the creatures of this land. Maha and Carl try to heal the world with love and kindness.

How much time does it take to know their habits, how much energy does it take to understand their needs, where to start to heal them and then heal yourself, and how much love is enough. Maha and Carl nourished everything around them with love, which made them so happy. I am also so happy to be part of the family, to share the love.

For me, all those days and nights watching movies in the living room, playing mahjong, working in the garden, every walk ouside the house, playing with cats and dogs, wallpaper and clotheslines, Hank Williams' guitar songs, long conversations, picnics, beaches and Lions Club...All those amazing people I met because of them: Therma, Brawk, Eric, Alex…They became my memories I will never forget. Also, I will never forget to be a happy person and enjoy the present, that’s what I learn from Maha.
