Dear Workaway Hosts,

We are Eden and Tom, a couple from a small country town in Australia, passionate about sustainable living and working closely with nature. Since July 2020, we have been traveling across the UK, Europe, and Australia, volunteering on a wide variety of farms and gaining hands-on experience in diverse settings.

For the last year, we have been running and managing a ski chalet. Eden takes the lead as head chef, planning and preparing all meals, while Tom ensures that every guest’s holiday runs smoothly with his exceptional hosting skills.

Our journey has included:
• Working on sheep and cattle farms.
• Volunteering on organic vegetable farms.
• Picking and packing strawberries.
• Running a ski chalet in the French Alps, managing cooking, cleaning, and guest care.
• Renovating a van and traveling through Italy for six months.
• Hiking in Morocco.
• Living and working on a permaculture farm in Far North Queensland for seven months, where we cultivated our own vegetable garden and embraced a self-sufficient lifestyle.

I (Eden) am passionate about cooking and baking, especially creating traditional sourdough bread and focaccia from scratch, I have been selling bread & focaccia in our small town here and plan to open my own bakery one day! I also enjoy experimenting with “slow food” methods.

We are deeply inspired by off-grid living, self-sufficiency, and sustainability. Our dream is to one day own a farm where we can grow fresh produce and serve delicious home-cooked meals made with love. We enjoy working with nature, appreciating its abundance, and embracing traditional methods that many have moved away from in modern times.

Skills

Eden’s Skills:
• Cooking and baking (specializing in sourdough and traditional techniques).
• Gardening and growing.

Tom’s Skills:
• Craftsmanship and building (including tiling, painting, and general maintenance).
• Tractor operation.
• Gardening and landscaping.

Shared Skills:
• Hospitality (ran & managed a catered chalet for 2 years).
• Animal care (experience with cattle, calves, and lambing).
• House sitting and property maintenance.
• Painting and sanding.
• Fruit and vegetable harvesting (grapes, strawberries, apples, oranges, and more).
• Gardening and planting (from seeding to transplanting and maintenance).
• Hard work, initiative, and adaptability.

We are hardworking, sociable, and open-minded, always eager to learn and contribute. We are also tidy, respectful, and reliable, valuing the trust and hospitality extended to us by our hosts.

Outside of work, we enjoy exploring the outdoors through hiking, camping, bike riding, and swimming. We have a deep appreciation for nature, animals, and connecting with people from different cultures, building lifelong friendships along the way.
