Hello! I'm Elyse, an avid environmentalist, frisbee player, and hiker with a passion for helping people and getting to know the world! I love speaking Spanish and am working on learning Portuguese, but would enjoy practicing other languages as well. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and am looking to work in renewable energy in the future, but would love to gain some global experience and help the environment on a local scale. Permaculture, construction/carpentry, and childcare interest me but I am willing to help out in any way you need. I'm excited to meet you!

Quais são suas habilidades?
I have six years of babysitting experience and have gardened for my parents throughout my life. I also worked in the residence halls for three years and worked in a hostel for a month, so I am excellent at communicating with others, performing administrative skills, and working under pressure. I enjoy living with pets as well and can care for them as needed. I speak Spanish and English, and would love to learn more languages! I also majored in Mechanical Engineering, so I'm good at mathematics and science. Outside of these, I enjoy art (drawing and painting) and physical activity. I lift weights regularly, so I am able to carry heavy things if needed!

I love playing frisbee, running, hiking, exploring in nature, doing art, and talking with people! I've started rock climbing recently as well. Yoga and meditation are practices I'd like to grow! I'm not very into board games but am willing to learn. Other hobbies include environmentalism, social justice, and holistic health and wellness.

I had an amazing experience with the Gonzales family!!! They are such genuine, kind, caring people and I learned so much from them! I started my stay in the chakra (rainforest) for a week, but unfortunately had to return to the city to tend to a foot injury from earlier. Elia and her family let me stay with them while she cured my foot injury.. I… read more babysat her two kids, Cris and Ryan, who are super sweet. The family fed and clothed me and gave me a comfortable bed to sleep in, even when I couldn't work or help around the house as much as I wanted to.
In the rainforest, most of the work is focused on construction. At the time I visited, we were working on a drainage system for the bathroom and building wooden walls for the upper part of the house. It's surrounded by nature and fruit trees. Everything you eat and drink is natural and delicious. You can bathe in the stream next to the house, pet the cows, and listen to the pet guinea pigs and chickens. There are fresh eggs, mangoes, coconuts, plantains, and more. Papa Miguel and Marlith are so caring, kind, and generous, and have good hearts. You have a flexible work schedule in the chakra and can learn more about medicinal plants as well. I wish I could have stayed longer, and can't wait to return one day!

¡¡¡Tuve una experiencia increíble con la familia Gonzales!!! ¡Son personas tan genuinas, amables y atentas y aprendí mucho de ellos! Comencé mi estadía en la chakra (selva tropical) por una semana, pero lamentablemente tuve que regresar a la ciudad para atender una lesión en el pie que tuve antes. Elia y su familia me dejaron quedarme con ellos mientras ella curaba mi lesión en el pie. Cuidé a sus dos hijos, Cris y Ryan, que son súper dulces. La familia me alimentó, me vistió y me dio una cama cómoda para dormir, incluso cuando no podía trabajar o ayudar en la casa tanto como quería.
En la selva tropical, la mayor parte del trabajo se centra en la construcción. En el momento de mi visita, estábamos trabajando en un sistema de drenaje para el baño y construyendo paredes de madera para la parte superior de la casa. Está rodeado de naturaleza y árboles frutales. Todo lo que comes y bebes es natural y delicioso. Puedes bañarte en el arroyo al lado de la casa, acariciar a las vacas y escuchar cómo acarician a los conejillos de indias y las gallinas. Hay huevos frescos, mangos, cocos, plátanos y más. Papá Miguel y Marlith son muy cariñosos, amables y generosos, y tienen buen corazón. Tienes un horario de trabajo flexible en el chakra y también puedes aprender más sobre las plantas medicinales. ¡Ojalá me hubiera quedado más tiempo y no puedo esperar a volver algún día!
