Back in 2020, Olivia (who goes by her middle name Joy) and I were spending the weekend together, for what we thought was going to be the last time. She had a one-way ticket booked to Australia that was set to depart a week later. That is, until the borders shut down for the pandemic.

In the 4+ years since that day, Joy and I started our relationship in lockdown (& fell deeply in love); moved out to Vancouver (& fell deeply in love with nature); got more into yoga, meditation, music, art, sports, plants, etc.; moved to Montreal for my first corporate job in machine learning, left that job to find work which feels more aligned with the world I want to help create, and have since gotten super interested in ecosystem restoration, permaculture, and sustainable living.

Now, Joy's finally gotten the chance to resume her travel adventure, only 4.5 years later - talk about a flight delay! Oh, and this time, I came with her :)

Over the years, we've come to recognize the fragility and the extractive nature of the lifestyle in the cities we grew up in. This has led us to search for different ways of living, striving towards more harmonious and resilient relationships with nature, with each other, and with ourselves.

Now, we dream of finding some land to steward, grow a food forest on, host guests, and hopefully do our part to help humanity reconnect with ourselves, each other, and nature. We’re excited to learn much more about all of this with Workaway!

Quais são suas habilidades?

Hi, Joy here!

I have a degree in Communications & have worked in sales/marketing, but my heart really lies in the creative/magical, entrepreneurial, and innovative space. I started my first business while in university as a photographer, capturing engagements, weddings, families etc. and for the past while, I’ve returned to photography more as an art form rather than a business. My next venture was a brand consulting & social media strategy business where I worked to help brands & individuals leverage their online space to bring in more clients/customers.

Over the past 7+ years, I’ve shared my journey (both personal & professional) on social media, and have welcomed in such an incredible community of kind souls. Though there are parts of me that feel very conflicted about social media, I have felt first hand the level of impact & connection that is possible when used with intention & heart - both as a consumer & creator. Social media has also been an amazing outlet for me to express creatively, and a place where many of my gifts/interests can come together (photography, videography, community/connection, art, play, storytelling, marketing etc).

I am interested in all things creative & beautiful, I love setting the vibe of a space and using thrifted/up-cycled items to decorate my home (and body)! Transformation of all kinds really light me up.

I’ve also been fascinated by & pulled towards the more magical realms for as long as I can remember - mediums, intuitives, energy healers etc.

& now Kyle:

- Since leaving my corporate job, I've been growing passionate about ecosystem restoration, permaculture, bioregioning, etc. and am excited to put these ideas into practice & pick up skills that were left out of my education, like growing food and healing ecosystems!!
- I've been trained in math, physics, computing, machine learning, data science, etc. & am interested to see how I can apply my background & gifts in a way that feels aligned with the world I want to help create.
- I enjoy teaching/tutoring & am interested in helping reform education. I recently took a course on birthing bioregional learning centers with the Design School for Regenerating Earth which was super interesting to me as a way to spread knowledge about how humans can transition from a nature-destroying paradigm to living in a way which regenerates our bioregions.
