Hello! My name is Miguel and I am from Spain.

Due to family reasons, I had to come back home when I had started to travel the world and I had to remain there for many years. Now, that I can make decisions thinking only about myself, I have decided to live my dream life and experience what I couldn't before.

I have lived in South America and Mexico for three years. From January 2018 to April 2021 I was living in Italy, focused in learning well the language and exploring the country. Now I'd like to enjoy the French culture as much as I have enjoyed the Italian. I have been living here for four years, trying to get a good level of french and to get to know its people, history and wildlife.

As a voluntary, I like to give you a hand with your everyday life and your projects. I think I work better in an autonomous way, with trust in my sens of responsibility. I like to face new challenges and to learn from your experiences and capacities.

The tasks I have most enjoyed were in relation to carpentry. Unfortunately I have not had many possibilities to do this genre of voluntary. So, if your project is related to this, I'd love to be part of it.

To me, it's also very important to connect on a personal level: have fun and interesting conversations, to get to know different points of view and ways to approach life... Both private time and time to stay together. If you want to show me your region, that would be great. I like to share good moments together and, when leaving your home, to take with me something good and to leave to you something good.

I like writing and I did a course in screen writing in Rome in 2021-2022. I love to stay with artists, no matter what artistic expression they develop. The same with people who had traveled the world, but none of this conditions is mandatory.

Quais são suas habilidades?
It's been more than 7 years that I do workaway in Europe. During this time I have faced many different host's profiles and voluntary works. I think that this variety has help me to develop flexibility and adaptability to diverse characters and environments (high mountain, religious communities, yoga centers, people living on their own, aged people, young couples...)

I had coped with many different tasks, from gardening to horses care, from grape harvest to cider making, from arranging theatrical decorations to house-sitting, repairs, wood chopping, orchards, cutting hedges, dog-sitting, greenhouse assembly ... I like to perform my tasks with care and commitment.

As a trade, I have been for many years receptionist in a four stars hotel. I speak English (one year living in Ireland in 2001-2002) In Italian, I have the C2 diploma, native level. In French, I have now the C1 diploma. If you are interested in a workaway related to hotels, guest houses or apartments, we can talk about that.

I think that if you like doing things well and you are not afraid of hard working, you can handle everything in life. I would like to learn new things from your experiences, capacities and abilities

I was chez Anne for two months, although at first my intention was to stay for one. It was a very interesting experience.

The main job, bringing running water from the house to a caravan, it was a challenging task. I had to dig a ditch 50 meters long and 60 centimeters deep through a clay soil full of stones and roots. It became a kind of… read more challenge and it was a pleasure and an honor to take the first shower in the caravan. I did other works, the most interesting to me it was putting the mycelium of the shitaké mushroom in oak’s logs. There, we work together in a collective she belongs.

It’s a group of people of all kinds of ages, origins and life experiences who bought an old doctor’s house in the middle of the nature and try to develop a community in conformity with principles of ecology, sustainability and common good. They organize film projections, concerts and courses. I had the possibility to witness a meeting where they discussed the better way to communicate and live together. This can be a plus for this workaway destination.

The main discovery in this experience was Cévennes. It’s a zone that it has everything : natural beauty, great gastronomy (here the food is really good, always organic) a strong social conscience and an amazing cultural life. For instance, we went to a meeting for the development des hameaux légers and to a documentary festival. Anne loves social life and she has a wide range of projects and interests and I could share them all.

Another great point about this destination, one plus, it’s that there is a very good bus service to Nîmes and from there you can explore Marseille, Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier, Saint-Gilles, Avignon… I did many trips in my days-off.

And last but not least I could meet a lot of interesting people : her mother, a lovely lady (she threw a snowball to Eisenhower in Verdun when she was a little girl, ask her for the full story) Barbara, with whom I did workaway a rainy week in Nîmes. She is just great: interesting experiences in museums, wide range of knowledge and stunning hobbies : she is a lyre player who try to recover the ancient Greek music. There, I met very interesting people too. Anne’s son, Raphaël, who is a scriptwriter in Brussels, her sister who is make-up artist in films, plays and series, brother-in-law, musician, Marion, anthropologist and photographer in Africa and many, many more people and experiences that I can’t tell because lack of space. Boredom doesn’t exist in this destination.

Good luck Anne with this new phase in your life of workaway hôtesse, and with your projects, travels and freedom to follow the course that fills your life.

I was in Anna and Patrick’s home for three weeks, and the experience couldn’t have been better.

The place is really beautiful. The house consists of different stone buildings that they united and restored over the years. I had my own space, very comfortable and well-equipped. In the back of the house there is a slopping ground. It starts with a… read more garden, then a little orchard, greenhouses, enclosed lands for the sheep, goats, donkeys and poultry, other orchard... Here some flowers, there some trees, paths, a hammock, a gazebo with benches, a vegetable garden grow in the rules of permaculture… There is a human touch in everything but with the spirit and principles of the nature itself.

Both Anna and Patrick are people with a wide and interesting live experience. The have many practical abilities too. They have complementary tinkering skills and the produce most of their vegetables, made their own dairy products and their own bread (fresh cheese with homemade bread for breakfast was a pleasure every day) One of his youth ideal was to be self-sufficient and I think they have get it. Food was very good and what I really priced in Nourais was the conversation: very funny, interesting and about many different topics. I enjoyed listening to their life experiences and anecdotes. It was a great place to practice french, especially now that I prepare my french diploma. Great help was Nahim too, their grandson, a very clever and affectionate child, 6 years old. He taught me new words (tournesol, hérisson…) he corrected me when I spoke frenchspanish (je le vais voir: pas bien; je vais le voir: bien) and sometimes he sat next to me to translate the words that I didn’t know in the Tintin and Lucky Luke’s comics.

Work was easy and very diverse: pulling weeds, prepare the soil for planting, build a staircase in the garden, build a henhouse (here I only was Anna’s builder assistant)… What I most enjoyed was when we prepared the wood structure for Anna students’ exhibition at home and then we took it to Rennes, rebuilt it in the public gallery and hang their works.

I didn’t do much tourism here, despite the opportunities they gave me, because I worked a lot for my french exams, perhaps too much. But I enjoyed the possibility to know Rennes while Anna was teaching and it was always a pleasure the Friday market with the coffee and crêpes afterwards. One special event was the day when they prepared the cart that Patrick has built and the donkeys and we went for a trip through the countryside. With the splendor of the nature in may, it was an unforgettable experience. And many days I did my walk with the company of Itcho, a very gentle dog.

In summary, a great place to stay with good and very interesting people. Totally recommended.

When I moved from Italy to France, I had the intention to be familiar with another culture and learn a new language. I was looking for a calm place where to focus on a writing project too. Elleri is a very generous and gentle woman, full of those little gestures that make life nicer for everybody around her. Here, the art of hospitality remains. This is an always wellcoming home, with colleages, family, friend and old-workawayers coming and going. She has had a wide life experience and she can say that she has really travelled around the world. Although she is from welsh origin, she speaks a perfect french, after so many years leaving in France. I was offered to do online classes in her accademy, combining my voluntary tasks with the learning of the language.

She has been very flexible with my timetable. It has been up to me to decide how to fullfil my duties. The task are easy. Keep the swimming-pool in good conditions, some orchard, some gardening and taking care of the animals. She has two dogs (gentleman Lucky and youthful Toby), 5 cats (grampa Ben, kitten Keddy, nice ladies Four and Five and the Moriarty of food robbery-clever schemer-evil genius-James Bond’s villain... Bill). She has three horses too. Caid, Isis and Lalo. Each of them with its own personality. I has been my first experience with horses, and a very interesting one. In fact, one of my best memories of this summer is going in the sunset to the upper meadow, whistle to call them and come back to the stables with the three horses trotting around me.

In the house lives also Elleri’s mother, Wendy. With her I have been able to practise my english. She is a very cultured and intelectually active person. We have talked about literature, history, her travels, her life experiences... A real bonus for my time here. We usually watch a Netflix’s documentary after lunch and we have much enjoyed our time together.

Elleri’s house is in the middle of the nature, surrounded by trees and meadows. There are many paths to walk around and now, in autumn, with the forests red yellow and green, is even more relaxing. It’s a perfect place for cycling (in the house there are two bycicles). Here I have fond the perfect place to focus on my writing project. There is a great library in the house and the section about traveling, is really amazing. I have never got bored. In this time I have been able to visit Rouen, Mount Saint-Michele, Evreux, Lisieux, Omagagh Beach, Honfleur, Deaville… I could even join the village trip to the forest to go for mushrooms and I went chez Brigitte, her neighbourgh and friend, to make cider with her. One of the things I have more liked about Elleri is her habit of not taking the direct path to places, strolling with the car around the norman countryside, visiting little villages and enjoying the landscape.

Perfect time the time in this home . Real focus , such a good use of time, meeting interesting people, listening to good stories, sightseeing… Perfect place to leave behind any stress. Every day we have dinner together (now, in the autumn with the fireplace on) and watch a film. Elleri is an excellent cook, with so many recipes that she has learnt in her journeys around the world. Always with a good glass of wine. Perfect end for the perfect days I have lived here.

Long comment... but this home deserves a long one. This has been one of my best experiences as a workawayer. I reccomend you to come, mainly is you want to go out of the rat race of everyday life, search yourself or focus on a project you’d love to pursue. I know I will be back, as many other long-term voluntaries do. I feel that after such a great time here, I am part of this home and this family.

I arrived in Rome in October of 2019, with the intention to do a nine-month course in scriptwriting for the cinema. At the end of next march, when I will leave Luciano and Marisa’s house, I will have stayed with them for one year and a half.

I have to say that the choice couldn’t have been better. They have been really friendly and supportive… read more during these difficult times, letting me to extend my stay when the COVID-19 crisis changed the normal development of the classes. They were very flexible with the timetable, letting me to combine my voluntary and academic schedules. Without their help, I couldn’t have completed this extraordinary experience. They are really nice people, caring, concerned about my well-being, always with a gentle and affectionate mood.

They are autonomous, in a very good health condition, so they don’t need any help in that sense. The voluntary consists mainly on garden and swimming-pool tasks. Sometimes a bit of painting and other little odd jobs. Three hours per day, which gives you a lot of free time. I have worked with Alberto, the chief gardener, a good and funny guy, full of life experiences to share.

You will live in your own apartment; with everything you need for your everyday life. There is a big garden around, which it was great during the confinement. The beach is at 15 minutes on foot. I have spent lots of meaningful moments there, reading, writing and walking. Out of the touristic season, the seaside is a quiet and peaceful place. You can take a bath and it’s a good place to do surfing too. Climate is mild and sunny most of the year. Anzio is at 10 minutes by train. You can go for a walk in the port, take a beer, have a meal in the fish restaurants or watch a film. In the summer you can do sailing and surfing courses. Life burst during this season. At the same time, Rome is at 45 minutes by train. So much leisure spots, art, culture and history to enjoy. In this place you have the quiet environment of the country combined with all the activities and the fun of the big city.

If you like nature, around Anzio you can find natural parks (Sabaudia, Torre Astura, Tor Caldara), untouched forest and non-touristic beaches. I have enjoyed so, so much this part of my stay here. Day trips that helped me during these complex times.

What else can I say? First of all, I’d like to thank Luciano and Marisa for their help, which it has let me to live my dream of doing this scriptwriting course. I fully recommend you to stay here. It is the perfect place to live and explore Rome and Lazio, especially if you are looking for a long stay destination. I hope you will enjoy this place as much as I have done.
