Hello, my name is Shu, and I’m 24 years old. I grew up in a small countryside town near Yokohama, Japan, and I’m currently staying in Toronto, Canada. I love watching movies, working out, and watching sports, especially soccer and baseball.

I’m passionate about learning and experiencing new things. Back in Japan, I worked as an actor, which helped me appreciate the diversity of the world and value hands-on experiences. I consider myself curious, hardworking, and detail-oriented.

Cooking and Cleaning: I have experience working at a facility for people with disabilities, where I mainly handled cooking and cleaning tasks. I also worked at a Japanese izakaya as a kitchen staff member and server. I’m skilled at making Japanese home-style meals.

Physical Tasks: I’ve been involved in sports since I was a child, and I currently do weight training, so I can (probably) handle heavy lifting and physical work!

Working with Children: I love spending time with kids and have experience as a tutor during my student years, helping children with their studies.

Animal Care: I’m a dog lover! My family used to have a German Shepherd, so I’m familiar with taking care of dogs.

I want to participate in Workaway because I love discovering new cultures and ways of life. I believe that living and working with people from different backgrounds will allow me to grow and gain valuable experiences. I’m also excited to share Japanese culture and cuisine with others.

Although I’ve just started learning English and my skills are still developing, I’m motivated to improve and communicate with others. I look forward to learning from hosts and contributing with my skills, hard work, and positive attitude!

Tom, Peter, and Nancy, thank you so much for the amazing three weeks. I had the best time of my life here. Honestly, everything was amazing.When Tom picked me up, and when I arrived at their home, all three of them welcomed me with the biggest smiles. At that moment, I felt completely relieved and thought, "I'm so glad I came here." That feeling… read more never changed until the very end.

All three of them were so kind and cheerful. They treated me like family. Even though my English is still not very good, they always taught me patiently. They never looked annoyed, and they answered all my questions with a smile. They waited for me to speak at my own pace, corrected my mistakes, and enjoyed talking with me. That made me so happy. They always said "thank you" for even small things, and their words gave me so much comfort. I wanted to help them more. I was really happy that they trusted and relied on me. Their kindness made me want to give my best in return.
Tom:He talked with me a lot, even though my English is not perfect. Every time we talked, I learned something new. His words gave me the courage to take action and made me feel more confident.And of course, his cooking was amazing!
Peter:He always praised me for the smallest things and made me laugh a lot. He cared for me and did his best to keep me comfortable and at ease.
Nancy:She always told me interesting stories and always said "thank you" for what I did. That made me really happy.

They respected my private time and provided me with a comfortable place to stay. My private room had a big bed and a couch, and I even had my own bathroom. They told me I could use everything freely, just like my own home. Thanks to that, I felt completely relaxed.They also let me use the hot tub and sauna, so I was able to truly enjoy my time. The sunset after the sauna and the starry sky from the hot tub were unforgettable views.

Taking care of the animals was a completely new experience for me, but they always taught me with kindness and patience. Watching the animals happily eat their feed was so cute, and taking care of them made me truly happy. Jedi, Jasper, and all the animals in the barn (especially Elmer) were so friendly and incredibly adorable. I was also able to experience their daily life—going shopping with them, taking out the trash, meeting their friends, and so on. Exploring the forest and lake, cleaning the barn, and more—everything was a valuable experience I could only have here. They always put me first and never forced me to do anything. I never felt pressured. They adjusted tasks flexibly based on the weather and my pace. Because they let me focus on what I wanted to do and what interested me. because of that, I never felt like I was "working.”

These three weeks were full of fun and unforgettable experiences. I was able to try so many new things, and I feel like I’ve grown mentally as well.Most of all, I realized how much I love talking with people, spending time with animals, and being in nature. They enriched my heart, supported my new challenges, and gave me special experiences.Now, I feel like I love myself and other people more than before. Everything about them, the animals, and their home makes me feel positive.
I will definitely come back again, and I want to show them how much I have grown by then.
